“12 design brands collectively create a collection of 12 circular designs made from leftover materials. A new design will be launched each month in 2025.”

Circular economy in value chains

Transitioning to circular economy is complex

Transitioning to circular economy is not something a business can do on its own; the entire value chain must work together. The project brings together players across industries in creative partnerships to transform industrial residual materials into valuable, commercial products, which reduces waste and fosters better use of materials.

THE UPCYCL is in charge of initiating, facilitating and project management of circular value chain exchanges between all partners in the value chain, focusing on close collaboration between design brands and manufacturing businesses.

In partnership with the 12 manufacturers, THE UPCYCL identifies residual materials which have a potential for upcycling and qualify as “New Waste”.

The organisations are prepared for regular circular partnerships and the supply of residual materials from their production to circular value chain exchanges.

The project is expected to reach 200,000 people on social media and 20,000 at trade fairs, conferences and exhibitions and via publications.

The 12 design brands undergo a circularity learning and creation process and together develop a collection of 12 circular designs. Each design includes upcycled residual materials from one or more of the 12 manufacturing businesses.

THE UPCYCL spotlights the project’s success and results under the 12 Designs for Circularity concept, with one design being published every month in 2025. The concept is presented in publications, online, at trade fairs and conferences and selected exhibition venues. Focus is on the symbiosis of resources and on dissemination of the circular economy principle.

The project not only helps to reduce waste but also promotes better use of materials and adds financial value for all those involved.
