New case: Can we live on hemp?

Can we use hemp instead of cotton? Yes, possibly. Evidence suggests that sustainable hemp grown on Danish fields can become part of the future in the textile production.

Durable tea towels, antibacterial casual wear and environmentally friendly jeans are some of the products that six Danish companies dream of producing out of hemp. They are involved in a project from Lifestyle & Design Cluster in order to verify whether hemp can become a Danish sustainable textile adventure.

“Fashion and the textile industry are taking their toll on both humans and nature, and therefore it is important to find materials and technologies that are more sustainable, “explains senior consultant Poul-Erik Jørgensen from VIA Design, about the background to investigate hemp environmental footprint and compare the quality with more familiar fabrics such as cotton.
